NEW YORK – The New York Liberty continued their red-hot start to the 2025 WNBA season on Tuesday night, making franchise history with a dominant 85-66 victory over the Chicago Sky at Barclays Center. This win marks the Liberty's ninth straight to begin the season, establishing their best-ever start and solidifying their position as an early WNBA powerhouse.

Despite missing reigning WNBA Finals MVP Jonquel Jones due to an ankle injury, the Liberty showcased their incredible depth and collective talent. Sabrina Ionescu led the charge with a game-high 23 points and seven assists, displaying remarkable efficiency by converting 9 of 14 field goal attempts. Breanna Stewart, another pillar of the Liberty's success, added 18 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Off the bench, Kennedy Burke provided a significant spark with 15 points, going a perfect three-for-three from beyond the arc. Nyara Sabally, making her first career WNBA start in place of Jones, contributed nine points in 15 minutes, further demonstrating the team's ability to adapt and thrive.



The Liberty wasted no time asserting their dominance, scoring the first 12 points of the game and never looking back. They outscored the Sky 26-15 in the opening quarter and held a comfortable 20-point lead by halftime. Their lead swelled to as much as 34 points in the second half, a testament to their suffocating defense and fluid offense. While the Sky managed a late fourth-quarter surge, the outcome was never truly in doubt.

For the Chicago Sky, rookie sensation Angel Reese delivered a season-high performance with 17 points and 11 rebounds, marking her fourth double-double of the season. This impressive outing also made her the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 30 career double-doubles, achieving the feat in just 42 games. Despite Reese's individual brilliance and a warm reception from the New York crowd, it wasn't enough to overcome the formidable Liberty squad. The Sky struggled with 22 turnovers and a dismal 6-for-23 from three-point range.

The New York Liberty's 9-0 start ties them for the fourth-longest winning streak to begin a WNBA season in league history.
