Legendusashirt: Mets’ Star Trio Delivers Late in Thrilling Comeback Win Over Orioles

In a game that had all the hallmarks of a crushing defeat, the New York Mets orchestrated their biggest comeback of the season on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, snatching a thrilling 7-6 extra-inning victory over the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards. It was a testament to the resilience of the Metropolitans, fueled by late-inning heroics from their formidable star trio: Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso, and Juan Soto.

The Mets, trailing 6-2 heading into the eighth inning, seemed destined for a disheartening loss. But the script flipped dramatically. After Brandon Nimmo singled to lead off the eighth, Francisco Lindor stepped to the plate and blasted a two-run home run, slicing the deficit to 6-4 and igniting the Mets' dugout. Just moments later, after a Juan Soto single, Pete Alonso launched his own two-run shot, a game-tying blast that sent the collective groan through the Orioles faithful and erupted the visiting crowd. Alonso's 21st homer of the year brought him within five of Darryl Strawberry's Mets franchise record of 252.

With the game tied, the Mets pressed on. After a scoreless ninth inning from Edwin Diaz, the game headed to extras. With Lindor as the automatic runner on second, Juan Soto, often referred to as "an All-Star for us" by manager Carlos Mendoza, ripped the first pitch he saw from Orioles reliever Yennier Cano into center field for the go-ahead RBI single, putting the Mets up 7-6.

While the Mets loaded the bases, they couldn't add more insurance, but Huascar Brazobán closed the door in the bottom of the tenth, securing his second save of the season and completing the improbable comeback. The victory, which improved the Mets' record to 5-34 when trailing after seven innings, underscored the fighting spirit of a team that is firmly in pursuit of a playoff spot. The late-game explosion from Lindor, Alonso, and Soto, affectionately dubbed the "Fab Four" by owner Steve Cohen after the game (also including Ronny Mauricio who earlier homered to spark the offense), proved that when their stars align, the Mets are a force to be reckoned with.
