Dodgers drop first of the season against the Rockies

Legendusashirt: Dodgers' Winning Streak Snapped in Denver

DENVER – The Los Angeles Dodgers’ incredible start to the 2025 season has finally hit a snag. After cruising through the first part of their schedule with an unblemished record, the Dodgers suffered their first loss of the season, a walk-off 4-3 defeat to the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field on Monday night.

The loss, which snapped an eight-game winning streak to start the year, was a classic "Coors Field" game, filled with defensive miscues and late-inning drama. While the Dodgers' pitching has been stellar thus far, they were unable to hold onto a late lead against a resilient Rockies offense.

Dodgers’ ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto, making his second start of the season, looked sharp through most of his seven-inning outing. He struck out six and allowed three runs, but a solo home run by Ezequiel Tovar in the seventh inning tied the game, setting the stage for the dramatic finish.

The decisive blow came in the bottom of the ninth inning off reliever Justin Wrobleski. With a runner on second, Warming Bernabel lined a single up the middle that brought home the winning run, sending the Coors Field crowd into a frenzy.

The loss was a reminder that even the most talented teams are not immune to the unpredictable nature of baseball. The Dodgers’ vaunted offense, which has been averaging over six runs per game, was largely quiet, managing just three runs on seven hits. Shohei Ohtani had a solid night with two hits, but the team's struggles with runners in scoring position proved to be the difference.

While the loss is certainly a tough pill to swallow, it’s important to keep it in perspective. The Dodgers are still the best team in baseball and their 8-1 record is a testament to their overwhelming talent. Manager Dave Roberts will no doubt use this game as a learning experience for his young team. The road to the World Series is long and filled with adversity, and a loss like this, however painful, can serve as a valuable wake-up call. The Dodgers will look to bounce back on Tuesday, with a chance to start a new winning streak.
