Seattle Storm Stumble in Indianapolis, Fall to Fever in 95-75 Rout
INDIANAPOLIS — The Seattle Storm’s three-game winning streak came to a crashing halt on Tuesday night, as they were overwhelmed by the Indiana Fever in a decisive 95-75 loss at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The defeat, which dropped the Storm to 20-19 on the season, allowed the Fever to leapfrog Seattle into sixth place in the tightly contested WNBA playoff race.
The Fever, playing without their injured superstar Caitlin Clark, were led by a dominant performance from All-Star Aliyah Boston, who finished with 27 points and nine rebounds. She was joined by a relentless backcourt, with Odyssey Sims adding 22 points and Kelsey Mitchell contributing 21.
The game was a struggle from the outset for Seattle, particularly on the glass and in ball security. The Fever doubled up the Storm on the boards, winning the rebounding battle 42-21, including a crucial 12 offensive rebounds. This created a constant stream of second-chance opportunities that the Fever capitalized on, while the Storm’s offense often sputtered, compounded by 13 turnovers that Indiana turned into easy points.
Nneka Ogwumike led the way for the Storm with 17 points, but it wasn't enough to counteract Indiana’s balanced attack. Brittney Sykes added 12 points, while Skylar Diggins-Smith recorded eight assists but was held to just six points on the night. The Storm never found their rhythm, losing every single quarter and trailing for nearly the entire game.
The loss serves as a major setback for Seattle as the regular season winds down, putting their playoff position in jeopardy. As they head into their final games, the Storm will need to find a way to re-energize and correct their struggles on the boards and in transition if they hope to secure a spot in the postseason.
